Turning data into captivating stories

Select examples of my work are listed below. I leverage my 10+ years of biomedical research experience to produce manuscripts, abstracts and conference presentations, and educational materials for internal and external groups.

Tissue Engineering Research

Optomechanically Actuated Hydrogel Platform for Cell Stimulation with Spatial and Temporal Resolution

This manuscript from my thesis work describes a mechanically active biomaterial for muscle tissue engineering. This novel, light-actuated hydrogel is characterized and demonstrated as an in vitro cell culture substrate to produce robust, aligned muscle fibers that better represent native tissue structure.

The Wound Reporting in Animal and Human Preclincial Studies (WRAHPS) Guidelines

This was an exciting collaborative project I worked on as a member of the Wound Care Collaborative Community. Inspired by the CONSORT guidelines for clinical trial reporting, we sought to standardize preclinical reporting to help wound care stakeholders better compare outcomes of different products and treatments. In this work, we reviewed the different types of preclinical models used, then created a checklist of required elements for reporting wound care research.

Clinical Case Series

Human Keratin Matrix in Addition to Standard of Care Accelerates Healing of Venous Ulcers

Wound size is a significant factor in chronic wound healing, yet large wounds are not often reported on in the literature. In this series of 16 venous leg ulcer patients, a novel keratin-based skin substitute was applied and evaluated for its ability to assist in wound closure. By presenting this real-world evidence, we help providers understand how a product will work not just in clinical trial patients but in their patients.
